30 Days Stay Term in Turkey Increased to 90 for Vehicles Registered under a Firm

25 July 2019 Yurtdışı Vatandaşlar

“Communiqué on Amendment to General Customs Communiqué about the Temporary Importation of Land Vehicles” that regulates the stay time of vehicles registered under a firm came into force with its publication at the Official Gazette of July 25, 2019.

According to new regulation, 30 days stay term provided for the vehicles (automobile, minibuses, land vehicles, trucks and motorcycles) brought to Turkey by our citizens abroad and registered under a firm is increased to 90 days.

This new regulation also facilitates the exit of the vehicles registered under a firm by another person. According to the previous regulation, in the cases when the vehicles registered to foreign firms were to exit Turkey by another person, the Proxy giver and the receiver had to go to the Customs Administration together; but from now on, if there is a letter of Proxy approved at an embassy, consulate or notary public, it will be deemed sufficient at the time of the application that only the Proxy receiver is present, the presence of the Proxy giver will not be required anymore.

With this regulation, an important demand of our citizens abroad is met. Thereby, our citizens living abroad can stay in Turkey for 90 days with their vehicles under a firm, since a good part of our citizens living abroad come to our country with the vehicles registered under a firm. Previously, when our citizens, who in average have a leave duration of 5 weeks (35 days), desired to spend this time in Turkey, they had to deal with significant fines due to the previous regulation or had to cut their vacations short to avoid the fine and leave Turkey early. With the increase in term from 30 days to 90 days, this problem of our citizens coming with the vehicles registered under a firm has been solved.

There have been no changes regarding the 730-day stay term in Turkey for vehicles registered under a person.

With this new regulation the vehicles registered under a firm can now stay up to 90 days, whereas the vehicles registered under a person can stay for 730 days.
