Metro Station in Frankfurt was Named After Our Young Hero's Name
The name of 17-year-old Mustafa Alptuğ Sözen, who lost his life in an accident in Germany, was given to the subway station.
Osstend station where the accident occurred was named after 17-year-old Turkish Mustafa Alptuğ Sözen, who was trapped between the train and the platform after saving a German homeless man without thinking. The station is situated near the European Central Bank. The name of the station in Frankfurt was changed to “Alptuğ Sözen station ostendstraße” in order to commemorate Turkish young man who saved a life heroically while returning from the university internship training.
On 13 November 2018, Mustafa Alptuğ Sözen, who had been receiving lab training in Frankfurt, died by trapping between the train and the platform while trying to save a 44-year-old homeless German citizen who fell on train tracks and laid unconscious. The wish of the family who lost their children with such heroism was to keep their children's name remembered.
Following the completion of the official processes, the ceremony was held at the station where the event occurred, and the sign displaying the new name of the station was hung. “Alptuğ Sözen Station” sign was hung on the underground wall with the ceremony held at the Ostend street station. The board under the sign read as: “On 13 November 2018, Mustafa Alptuğ Sözen lost his life in this station while trying to save a hopeless person." In addition to the family and friends of the heroic young man, the Consulate General of Frankfurt of Turkey, Burak Karart, the mayor of Frankfurt, Peter Feldmann and numerous citizens attended the ceremony.
